WHITEREAD, Rachel (b. 1963)
Secondhand, 2004; Stereolithograph of laser sintered white nylon on a sprayed white MDF base and contained within a display case of 3mm Perspex; Signed R. Whiteread in black ink, center and numbered 38/400 in black ink, center on Counter Editions Certificate included in the original publisher’s envelope; This ghostly white sculptural multiple is based on an assemblage of vintage dolls house furniture. The furniture was first arranged by Whiteread in a manner mimicking displays seen outside used furniture stores. Then 3D scans were taken of the arrangement, which were subsequently utilised to create the sculpture using an advanced form of stereolithography. Reduced to a scaled down highly minimal object, traces still remain of the idiosyncrasies of the original model furniture; Dimensions 4” x 4 1/2” x 6 3/8”; $2,000; Layaway for only $200/month! 9568
